I finally got my Foreign Too disc back. While listening to the music I remember again why I enjoy it so much. Each song reminds me of somebody and something. Where do you gain your inspiration Jason?

In my life, I have found my art is driven from hardships. When I'm depressed I can come up with some of the most expressive art. The mood, I hate to say it, is something at times I will go out of my way to feel. When I'm happy, and things aren't going all wrong, I can't seem to draw anything that can show that feeling well. The songs an the album hit several different types of moods. I don't know if its easier to express a wider variety of moods thru the art of lyrics and song. But I find myself at a loss for words to express to good days.

When you write your music Jason, does it start out as a full emotion? Or is it something that flows well, with emotion added in as the song come to a more complete state? And because its your music, what is your view of others trying to help write or mold a song?

When I draw, I tend to dislike others wanting me to draw something. Because to me, I'll never be able to meet there expectations. But its a visual median, which is totally different from music. Which makes me wonder how you deal with others saying "I've got these lyrics, I want to make song out of it, but it just doesn't work". Do you find it much more difficult working with others emotions, because thats what music really is, then your own. Or is it a possible insperation for your own work?

Lots of questions, but I've had a lot of time to think of them in my "hiding".

Overall questions:

1. Where do you get most of your inspirations?
2. Have you ever created something that started as another thought and made it your own?
3. What moods do you find it easiest to create lyrics to your songs?

Sleeper,
Sorry, I'm a jackass and passed by this post.

My ispirations come from all over. Of course they come from life, but I guess they come from simple observations I make. Some are things I observe about myself, others are the world around me. I'll often take a thought, for example, a friend slipping away into the drug scene and try to create a metaphore that helps to give a visual, like "You're running out of the tap. And like water on the ground you're spread so thin..." Something like that.

Songs are written in different ways. Some flow and are done in an hour. Others, are songs that were shelved because I couldn't think of a cool lick to flow into on the guitar, or the lyrics just aren't how I want them. So I let them go, and sometimes years later the song resurfaces and begins to take meaning again. Either it has the same meaning and I think of something new to say, or an old feeling will create new ones and the song goes off in a different direction.

The mood easiest to write in is pain. Because of the time that pain may encompass me, it causes me to focus on how I'm feeling, and writing helps to set that pain free from me. Having said that, I always hope that the original meaning of the song is conveyed not only through the song, but through the mood conveyed from the stage; the eyes, the motions.

Thanks for asking, Sleeper.
