Here’s where things get long.
The people who receive the AfterLife range from those who accidentally got on the list at a show, those who read only the dates, those who read what they can when they can to see the progress of the project, and to those who read the AfterLife in one big chunk when they get it. Which ever you are, thank you for being part of it, and please read responsibly.
LAST MONTH (From Jason)
"When one plays out every weekend, I’ve found there is less desire to be "in" the bar scene. Luckily, I took the time to go out this month. If you have a flavor for local talent, you should see what’s in the Grand Rapids scene. I saw two bands that not only have great lyrics and music, but great live shows as well. If you get the chance, I would recommend you go see Maryz Eyez (http://www.maryzeyez.net ) and Broken Sunday (http://brokensunday.com ). Maryz Eyez is the most fun punk band I’ve seen in GR, and Broken Sunday moved me with their melodies and rhythms. Support your local music."
BABES and BANDS (FREE FOOD)
Thursday the 7th of April, Jason and Jason Lanning will open Babes and Bands with a Diesel-Fueled Acoustic show; this will be an all-original show. This show will help suport the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The show from Ten Bells (if mixed well) will lend a few songs to the new live disc. So come out, scream, yell and be merry – You just might hear your scream on the disc (No Negative Explicatives Please so tell your AfterNine-Hatin’ friends to stay home; and yes we’ve found a few). SHOW STARTS @ 9pm SomeWhat SHARP.
RECOIL AND MUSIC REVUE
The April issue of RECOIL held a ½ page add for AfterNine shows this month as well as a promotion for the U.S. Tour. If you get the chance, pick up a RECOIL and check it out. There is a misprint for the SEND OFF SHOW. It reads March 29 @ the Radio Tavern and should read April 29.
MUSIC REVUE approached Jason this month to do an interview for their May issue. Be looking for that.
******If you have never read either of these Grand Rapids magazines, you should pick one up if you’re into knowing what’s going on in music in West Michigan.
NEW CD
We are currently working on a live disc to take on tour. River City Studios (http://www.rivercitystudios.com ) has sponsored J&J Entertainment for 3000 cds. That’s 1000 per artist on the tour. AfterNine is still responsible for the booklet inserts, and your donations have now almost covered that cost; THANK YOU!!
The CD will be a compilation of different live shows and live studio work. We hope to have all the tracks mastered and sent to the cd press by April 18 (the day Jason leaves for his Tennessee Tour).
MILITARY TOUR
It’s not easy being in the dark sometimes. If you’ve checked the military dates on the J&J Entertainment website (http://jjentertainment.biz) you will see that there is a gap from May 9 till June 11. We say "It’s not easy being in the dark because there are dates inbetween that have not been solidified. So do we simply have faith that they get filled or is there a business sense that says if these dates aren’t filled in a certain amount of time, we begin booking for ourselves in Grand Rapids?" It’s not always black and white. We tell you, The AfterLifer, this as a way to help you understand that this job is not 9-5 and it is not always guaranteed. We truly want you to see what it’s like to try to be in this business; with everything that it entails from frustrations to elations. That’s all.
Still, we find ourselves excited in the idea of having a stage where you are more thankful for those in the audience and what they do to help secure our freedom, than they could ever be that you’re playing some piddly little 45 minute set for them. We hope this tour is a gift.
T-SHIRT FANCY (This Section brought to you by Jason’s Manager)
This summer not only brings new music, new shows, and new ideas to us, but also the reality that SUMMER IS ON ITS WAY!! With this, Jason has found a new fancy for stupid T-shirts. This new affection for stupid t-shirts started back when Stupid T-shirt Friday’s were implemented by a few of the AfterLifers (Britt and Ang), and Jason found himself wearing a Ghostbusters t-shirt to the Holiday Inn on Ann Street...but lately it has gotten more intense. Jason has an addiction now. If you know of a place where we can find a "Kentonky", "Lake Erie is Happiness" or other fun shirt while on tour, let us know and we’ll stop to pick one up and think of you.
THE SHOWS (For those music Geeks who care)
If you have been to shows lately you see that Jason is sporting a new guitar; although it is not new. Jason is playing a Canadian Seagull guitar for most standard tuning songs, and has reserved his Takamine (the red guitar) for ‘alternate-tuning’ songs such as "This wasn’t the Deal" the "Cheers Theme Song" and a small handful of other songs.
Also, We are elated to say that we cannot play all the original songs at the original-live shows because there are too many. If you are at a live show and want to hear your song, let us know because it may not be on the set-list. And you know Jason loves to play what you request.
YOUR PICTURES on the WEBSITE
If you didn’t know it, BRING YOUR CAMERA to the shows. Any pictures you take can be added to the PHOTO GALLERY. Just go to pictures and ADD YOUR OWN, or, if the show has no pictures yet, go to the TOUR DATE ARCHIVES, find the past show and ADD YOUR OWN photos.
LAKEFXRADIO.COM
This month, the crew at Lake FX Radio is doing another live show on April 14 @6pm with Jason before sending him off. Go to http://LakeFXRadio.com and let the message board know that you want more Jason Eller and AfterNine: They’ll play it. And when the show comes, jump on the chat room @ Lake FX and talk to us. It’s a great feeling to talk to you guys over the air as you talk back over the Lake FX Chat!
DONATION DRIVE
Last Month, Andy, one of out Street Team Members, decided to start a donation drive to help Jason prepare for the summer tour. Hemi, then took his idea and ran it through to the whole email list. The response just about made us cry.
If you’d like to donate to AfterNine or purchase AfterNine merchandise, you can do so by hitting the MERCH button on the website.
SONG SPOTLIGHT (from Jason)
"This month I though I’d simply write a little expository text instead of a song. This is mostly because nothing new has been written. I have old songs that I could put up, but would rather offer some insight into my personal song writing adventure.
This month, I’ve written a lot, but have nothing new to show. As I’m constantly driving, I have envelopes, receipts, Subaru Owner’s Manuals, and even my insurance card (Chicago PD didn’t like that) with thoughts and lyrics. Sometimes I still get wasted on radio, but when I’m not, I’m writing down lyrics and thoughts and trying to keep the car between the lines. During the military tour, I plan to have lots of time to read and write so if you have any suggestions on what I should read, let me know. I’m starting out with the Divinci Code, but I don’t know how long it’s going to take."
That’s it.
That’s the AfterLife.
